Amsterdam
Amsterdam

Amsterdam had been on my bucket list for years and I was FINALLY able to visit in April 2016. With it being less than an hour's flight from BHX, I can't believe it took me six years of UK living to finally get there (April 2016). It's a small-ish city that has a larger-than-life global reputation, on par with that of Las Vegas. Many tourists like to stop over in Amsterdam to gawk at the brothels or the "coffee" shops, but there is so much more going on in this compact area than anyone might expect.

The third decade of my life ended as I was face-down on a hotel bed in Reims, fully clothed, and unconscious. I’m fairly certain that I had a smile on my face.

My special birthday Champagne tasting itinerary as created by Grape Escapes was not for amateurs. Don’t try this at home – the Champenoise don’t believe in “tasting” measures. You are given a full flute of everything you will taste. And it would be rude not to drink every last drop. (You have probably already noticed that these posts have conspicuously less photos as compared with my other travels…)

Budapest was really not on my radar, but when my boyfriend, Dave, announced that his band (Foo Fighters) would be playing a non-festival date at the arena there in June 2017, it sounded like a good excuse to book a city break.

All good city breaks feature a balance between sightseeing (the “culture bit” as my other half calls it) and finding the best food and booze in town. We definitely succeeded but I will admit that we had help.
